FAQ

We do our best to collect the most commonly asked questions from discussions with volunteers as well as our online forum. This list is not exhaustive and if you have a question that isn't answered here, please post it to our Q&A Forum.

If you have attempted to contact your mentee via phone and email with no response in thirty days, please send an email to [email protected] and someone on the Rise team will check in with your mentee.

Not the mentor’s job to provide clinical support but can help by:

  • Providing active listening when possible/appropriate
  • If mentee shares reason for stress acknowledge the stressful situation and validate mentee’s feelings of stress
  • Give encouragement, especially where mentee is putting in effort in session
  • If mentee is having difficulty focusing provide small breaks throughout session
  • If mentee seems unable to focus even with periodic breaks suggest moving the meeting to another day

Suggest that the mentee seek more support from his or her support system (social or professional)

  • Try to limit the number of goals set (2-3) in order to prioritize
  • Set SMART goals
  • Explore what is getting in the way of completing a step(s) to achieve a goal and generate solutions to overcome barriers with mentee that could be implemented immediately
  • Help mentee to create a step-by-step plan to achieve priority goal. Agree to create a step-by-step plan for the next goal only when the first has been met
  • Ensure the goals are mentee oriented and that the mentee buys in. Make sure the mentee understands why this goal is the most important to achieve now
  • Reinforce progression towards goals by giving positive feedback

It is natural for entrepreneurs to create a network of mentors and advisors as their business evolves. If your mentee is setting and achieving goals without your input, they may be ready to continue without your support.
